How to Prevent Bee Stings, aka the Buzz about Bees
There was a report on ABC 15 recently about how you can protect yourself against bee stings.
It’s important to know that bees are not out to attack unless provoked. The majority of bees in Arizona are now Africanized bees — the kind that will aggressively chase you down and sting you if provoked. Bee stings can be more than just uncomfortable. About 2 million people in the U.S. are allergic to insect stings.
According to the report, the best thing to do if you are ever attacked by a swarm of bees is to run away fast and keep running until you can get inside a car, a house or a tent. Bees can chase you for up to 1/4 of a mile. But, keep in mind, most attacks only happen after someone has disturbed an Africanized bee hive.
